A new trailer has been released for Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, the first theatrical film in the long-running Dragon Ball Z franchise. The movie, originally released in 1989, centers on the villain Garlic Jr.'s attempt to collect the Dragon Balls to achieve immortality and conquer the world, forcing Goku to defend his son Gohan.
Produced by Toei Animation, the film predates many of the more complex power scaling and transformations seen in later arcs of the anime. The trailer showcases classic 80s animation and the series' signature blend of high-octane martial arts action and comedic interjections.
Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone is notable for introducing Garlic Jr. and his father, Garlic, to the Dragon Ball universe. While Garlic Jr. would later return as the main antagonist in the first filler saga of Dragon Ball Z, this film marked his initial cinematic debut.
