Yamato Kochi, the actor portraying 'The Walking Man' in the recently released film Exit 8, made an appearance in New York City's subway system on Wednesday, April 8th. Distributor Neon Rated announced the event, inviting fans to spot Kochi in character at select stations. Those who find him and utter the pass phrase "TURN BACK" are promised a special prize.
The promotional event is scheduled to take place at various stations along the route from Fulton Street to Lexington Avenue–63rd Street between 9:15 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. Kochi himself teased his trip to the city with a social media post showing him en route to New York.
Exit 8, which premiered at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival in May 2025, is adapted from the popular indie infinite-loop horror game developed by KOTAKE CREATE. The film has already seen significant success in Japan, opening at #2 and selling over 672,000 tickets.
Neon Rated, the North American distributor also known for handling films like Parasite and Anora, is set to release Exit 8 in the region on April 10th. The game and film revolve around a player trapped in an endlessly looping subway passageway, tasked with identifying anomalies to escape.
