Ikkado Ito’s time-loop comedy manga The Long Summer of August 31 is expanding beyond the page with two major adaptations. The official social media account for the series confirmed that a television anime is currently in production at studio SHAFT, alongside a separate live-action series. To mark the announcement, an ultra-teaser visual for the anime was shared, accompanied by a commemorative illustration from Ito.
The series centers on high school students Suzuki Takaya and Takagi Kana, who find themselves stuck in an infinite loop of the same day: August 31st. The duo remains the only ones aware of the repetition, which appears to be triggered by Suzuki’s desperate, unfinished mission to secure a girlfriend before the summer ends. The manga, which blends humor with heartfelt moments, has been serialized in Kodansha’s Morning magazine since 2023 and currently spans 13 compiled volumes.
While the anime and live-action projects are now confirmed, details regarding release windows, cast members, or returning staff remain unknown. The manga has already established a presence in the English market, with Seven Seas Entertainment publishing the physical volumes and Kodansha’s K MANGA platform providing digital access.
