Sunrise, the original studio behind Mobile Suit Gundam, has produced entirely new animation for a series of commercials promoting McDonald's Japan's upcoming collaboration with the iconic franchise. The ads reimagine classic scenes from the original series, introducing a custom Gundam unit: the RX-78-2 Gundam Chicken Tatsuta Custom.

These commercials utilize the original opening theme, “Tobe! Gundam” (Fly! Gundam), and were released on Thursday. The collaboration officially begins on April 15, offering customers three burger options: the standard Chicken Tatsuta, a new Cheese Chicken Tatsuta, and a Tartar Yūrinchii-Fū Chicken Tatsuta. Beverage choices include the McFizz Wakankitsu Yogurt and McFloat Wakankitsu Yogurt drinks.

Leading up to the reveal, McDonald's Japan had teased the collaboration with social media posts featuring characters like Lalah Sune, Amuro Ray, and Char Aznable. Voice actors Saori Hayami, Tōru Furuya, and Shūichi Ikeda reprised their roles for short audio clips hinting at the new burger and a significant "launch."
